About

For many a decade, I have been captivated by a certain inherent order that generates this world. My works embody a profound dialogue with this world-generating force.-----Dove 2024.5.3

Dove is a Chinese contemporary artist who lives and works between New York and Beijing. Since the early 1990s, during his formative years in the Yuanmingyuan Artists’ Village, Dove has established a distinct artistic system grounded in philosophical inquiry and spiritual independence. His early works—Cover Design, Pointer, Rope, and Tacit Understanding of Power and Music—reveal a sharp insight into the structures of society, individual will, and cultural authority, and are regarded as some of the most intellectually profound creations of China’s 1990s art scene.

Since the 2000s, Dove’s practice has gradually turned toward themes of faith, spirit, and existence. Centering on the symbol of the cross, he has pursued a visual exploration spanning more than two decades. From the Cross series (2007), the sculptural work Cured Meat (2009), Cross Lilac (2013), and SCS (2018), to his recent Lifeline series (2025), Dove transforms the cross from a religious emblem into a spiritual geometry—making painting a bridge between the human soul and the divine.
